Hello Pilgrims, the new year is upon us, I hope you had a great holiday season. One of John Wayne's frequent co-stars, Harry Carey Jr, passed away on December 27, 2012. He died of natural causes at age 91 in Santa Barbara, California.

The 2012 John Wayne Trivia Contest has ended. Click Here for the correct answers to the questions. The winner of the contest is Sharon Kolodziej of Joliet, IL she scored 17 out of a possible 18 points. The prize is three DVDs The Big Trail, The Barbarian and the Geisha, and a bonus disc that includes John Wayne starring in Idol of the Crowds (1937) and Rookie of the Year (1955) a half-hour TV drama from The Screen Director's Playhouse directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne, Vera Miles, Ward Bond, Patrick Wayne, James Gleason, and Willis Bouchey.

On Turner Classic Movies (TCM) channel this month here are a couple of old favorites and one that has not been seen in several years, The Life of Jimmy Dolan (1933). NOTE: This film is the answer to question #5 in the recent 2012 John Wayne Trivia Contest.

On January 22, 2013 Olive Films will release a newly re-mastered 60th Anniversary Special Edition of THE QUIET MAN in HD on Blu-Ray from a 4K SCAN of the ORIGINAL NITRATE NEGATIVE. It will also be released in a DVD version. Olive Films has acquired the Republic Pictures rights from Paramount Pictures. They have previously released, on Blu-Ray and DVD other
John Wayne films in 2012, such as, Rio Grande and 4 Three Mesquiteers films. Here is hoping that they will release (and re-master) other John Wayne films in 2013.
