Newt's John Wayne Site

Howdy Pilgrim.

I just wanted to update you on the happenings at Newt's John Wayne Site. CLICK HERE for a list of films starring John Wayne on TV showing this month.

• I know that you are all waiting for the DVD releases of THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY and ISLAND IN THE SKY that Paramount said were coming this spring. Still no word on this happening but it is still early and not really spring yet. As soon as I hear anything the members of this mailing list will be the first to know.
  

• Warner Home Video has announced for May 3, 2005 the release of five John Wayne films to DVD. The films are, in cronological order; Tall in the Saddle (1944), Blood Alley (1955), The Sea Chase (1955), The Train Robbers (1973), and McQ (1974). These films will also be issued in a boxed set called John Wayne Legendary Heroes Collection. I haven't heard if they will have any special features or not, we will have to wait and see as the release date gets closer.
  

• I found an interesting article from the Des Moines Register titled JOHN WAYNE REMAINS A FAVORITE. It seems that John Wayne is still in the top ten favorite movie stars in the annual Harris Poll, even though Duke has been gone 25 years. Check out this article and also here is a link concerning the results of this Harris Poll.
  

• This month on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) there are some films of interest.
  3 GODFATHERS (1949) on March 17th is usually shown around Christmas time but is very good film and the first major role of Harry Carey Jr.
  McLINTOCK! (1963) on March 20th is probably one of the most popular of John Wayne's films and a great comedy.
  

  On March 28th a trio of films not often seen will be televised.
  WITHOUT RESERVATIONS (1946 ) is a comedy starring John Wayne, Claudette Colbert, and Don DeFore. A woman writer falls for a war hero who's a perfect match for the hero of her latest novel.
  ALLEGHENY UPRISING (1939) starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, and George Sanders. Colonial Settlers fight the corrupt British in the days before the American Revolution.
  CENTRAL AIRPORT (1933) starring Richard Barthelmess, Sally Eilers, Tom Brown. Aviator Jim Blaine and his brother Neil are rivals not only as daredevil flyers, but also for the love of parachutist Jill Collins. There's more to this movie than John Wayne in a bit part, a co-pilot in wreck (uncredited). There are some spectacular flying scenes, interesting crash scenes, and the sexual aspect of the story is somewhat shocking while being quite tastefully depicted. It is a likable and entertaining pre-code film. I have never seen this film so I will definitely have my VCR going as I am sure you will too. Check your listings for the times in your area.
