Of the commemorative stamps for 2004 that were announced was the one that we have been waiting years for, the John Wayne stamp. The full pane of stamps was unveiled at the Odyssey Ball, a private fundraising gala for the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, on April 3, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel but the stamp will not be issued until September. As soon as more information is available I will pass it along in this newsletter.

The long awaited book by Maureen O'Hara is finally here. 'Tis Herself - A Memoir, in language that is blunt, straightforward, and totally lacking in artifice, Maureen O'Hara, one of the greatest and most enduring stars of Hollywood's "Golden Era," for the first time tells the story of how she succeeded in the world's most competitive business.

Existing copies of THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY on VHS tape are still going for a high price on eBay, from $100 - $200. The latest version was a DVD-R that went for $260.00. I'm sure Batjac would not take this too well knowing someone else is selling a DVD of this film before they can get their version on the market. Patrick Sherry let me know about something he saw in the 02/20/04 issue of the San Francisco Examiner. In Jan Wahl's column she quoted William Wellman Jr. as saying "Of my father's 76 pictures, one of the best is finally being restored. I just finished working on the DVD of "The High and the Mighty," so look for that one soon!"
When I can find out more about this release I will pass it along, perhaps the long wait has been worth it.
