I just wanted to update you on the happenings at Newt's John Wayne Site. CLICK HERE for a list of films starring John Wayne on TV showing this month.

• There are some very exciting new releases bursting onto the DVD scene.
  

  On May 30, 2006 Universal released to DVD John Wayne - An American Icon Collection. This 2-disc boxed set will have five films, most have not had a DVD release before. The films are Seven Sinners (1940), The Shepherd of the Hills (1941), Pittsburgh (1942), The Conqueror (1956), and Jet Pilot (1957).
  

  On June 6, 2006 from Warner Brothers there will be two major releases. First, The John Ford Film Collection - This 5-disc boxed set will have five films, The Lost Patrol (1934), The Informer (1935), Cheyenne Autumn (1964), Mary of Scotland (1936) and Sergeant Rutledge (1960). These films will only be in this set, not available individually.
  

  Next is The John Wayne/John Ford Film Collection - This 10-disc set includes The Searchers (1956): 50th Anniversary Ultimate Two-Disc Special Edition, Stagecoach (1939): Two-Disc Special Edition , Fort Apache (1948), The Long Voyage Home (1940), The Wings of Eagles (1957), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), They Were Expendable (1945) and 3 Godfathers (1948). These films are in this set or they can be purchased individually, just click the links.
  

  Also due for release on June 6, 2006 from Paramount is the Batjac Suspense Collection. This is a four disc set containing four films not starring John Wayne that his company produced in the 1950's. The are available in this set or individually, just click the links to check them out. The film's are Track of the Cat Special Collectors Edition - 1954 starring Robert Mitchum, Teresa Wright, Diana Lynn, Tab Hunter, and Beulah Bondi. Plunder of the Sun Special Collectors Edition - 1953 starring Glenn Ford, Diana Lynn, Patricia Medina, Francis L. Sullivan, and Sean McClory. Man in the Vault - 1956 starring William Campbell, Karen Sharpe, Anita Ekberg, Berry Kroeger, and Paul Fix. This film is significant as this is Andrew V. McLaglen's directorial debut. Ring of Fear - 1954 starring Clyde Beatty, Mickey Spillane, Pat O'Brien, Sean McClory, Marian Carr.
  

• As many of you know, May 26th was John Wayne's 99th birthday. On the homepage I have posted an image of the birthday cake I brought to work for our John Wayne 99th Birthday Potluck. We had lots of good things to eat such as; taco soup, fried chicken, chili, possum stew (it was really beef), biscuits, chile rellano cassarole and of course ice cream for the cake. I couldn't take any pictures because I work in a prison and cameras are not allowed within the wire. A good time was had by all. Either I am converting these people to all things John Wayne or they are just accepting my obsession. Actually, any excuse for a potluck works in our office.
  

• Next week I am going to have some surgery and I will be out of commission a week or two. If I don't respond to your comments, fear not, I shall be back in the saddle again soon.
