On December 14th Paramount will release True Grit (1969) on Blu-Ray. Speaking of True Grit, I am sure you have heard that the a new True Grit film is being released on Christmas Day. You can view the movie trailer near the top of my home page. This film is being made by the Coen brothers and one of the producers is Steven Spielberg. The film stars Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn, Matt Damon as Texas Ranger LeBeouf, Josh Brolin as Tom Chaney, Barry Pepper as Lucky Ned Pepper, and Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross. By the looks of the trailer it appears to be a more serious film that the Duke version, by this I mean without comedic touches. It is supposedly truer to the original book by Charles Portis. One thing that I noticed that is different about the two films is that John Wayne had his eyepatch on his left eye and Jeff Bridges has his on his right eye. I would like to hear from you concerning your thoughts about this film being made and comparison of the two films after you have seen the new one. Just send me your comments thru the comments link at the bottom of this newsletter or on any page on the website.

Campfire Conversations Complete is a companion volume to the 2007 Deluxe Centennial Editon. This hardbound volume contains 24 interviews not contained in the 2007 book. This book has many outstanding interviews of the coworkers of John Wayne. Tim Lilley as interviewer and editor of these volumes, has devoted much of his adult life to bringing information and joy to the fans of John Wayne. This volume would make a great Christmas gift for your favorite John Wayne fan.

Speaking of Christmas gifts, a visit to the John Wayne Store should be your next stop. As a list of important items from the store when your are on the home page be sure to scroll down about half-way and view Hot Items In The Store. There are several categories such as Music with CDs from John Wayne movies plus America, Why I Love Her. In DVDs there is a lot of the Duke's films, plus Blu-Ray discs and some that are not John Wayne movies. There are John Wayne multi-disc sets and a page of non-Duke movies from the directors that John Wayne worked with frequently. In Books, one of my favorites is 'Tis Herself, a memoir by Maureen O'Hara plus many books about John Wayne, some of his co-stars, and a section on western films in general. Plus sections on Calendars for 2010, posters, and pictures of John Wayne and many of his co-stars.
